As we continue to thrive & pave our ways forward amid the current pandemic crisis, the only shields to our rescue are resilience, optimism and adaptability. The year has been adverse unlike any other, for the world at large, yet humanity’s constant endeavor to cope up with the challenges has been ever-promising and extremely positive.

As educational institutes buckle up to equip their students with the best of the knowledge and resources virtually, many events which are as crucial and special in any student’s life also find themselves heading towards virtual shifts.Marking the occasion of 33rd Commencement Day,BIMTECH Greater Noida, rolled out a virtual red carpet to welcome 420 students of its 33rd Batch of PGDM 2020-22 and their family members on 31st July, 2020 via Zoom platform.

The ceremony kickstarted at 6p.m. with the incoming students and their families being welcomed with sobriety in the quintessential BIMTECH tradition with Saraswati Vandana by Pandit Sujit Ojha. Dr. Pooja Mishra, Program Head of Retail Management at BIMTECH, gave an introductory speech which was followed by the welcome address by some renowned industry dignitaries including the members of the Board of Governors- Mrs. Jayshree Mohta, Mr. Alok Gupta, Mr. Saket Khaitan, Mr. Kamal Singh, Mr. Rajiv Kishore Dubey, Mr. Vikas Kandoi.

According to Mr. Kamal Singh, Executive Director at UNGC, India, “BIMTECH is a fast growing B-school and has established itself as a socially responsible institute that mirrors the values of UNGC by promoting the SDGs”.

This was followed by the welcome address by the Director, Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi wherein he shared his views& concerns about the ongoing pandemic crisis and how the institute plans to deal with the situation in the benefit of all its stakeholders. He stressed upon how humanity has emerged victorious in the past, amidst wars, economic crisis and epidemics and how this time too, we shall keep our hopes high and conquer the adversities. According to him, “The new normal of MBA journey will follow a different pattern in teaching, learning & curriculum practices. The institute has equipped the faculties and students with the best of resources & has invested heavily in development of IT infrastructure”.He welcomed the newly inducted students to BIMTECH, which represents the rich cultural, regional and gender diversity from across the length and breadth of the country &assured the parents that they will receive a much-enhanced version of their wards after the completion of their PGDM course. Dr. Chaturvedi also ignited a ray of hope among the viewers through his optimistic view of the Indian economy’s revival, which will pose ample opportunities for the batch of 2020-22. He further emphasized on the value of international and national accreditations received by BIMTECH. Accredited by NAAC (A+)&NBA (All programs 6 yrs.),BIMTECH is the 1st Indian B-school to be awarded with the prestigious EFMD Business School Impact System (BSIS) label.He presented a testimony to the quality education imparted by BIMTECH through its progressive and futuristic programs and plans aligned to the community needs, industry expectations and national agenda which is positively impacting the local, regional and national economy. He proudly announced that BIMTECH has been declared Category 1 Graded Autonomy Status by

AICTE. BIMTECH along with XLRI, Jamshedpur, are the only two institutions who have bagged this coveted recognition.Healso added that BIMTECH is in the final stage of receiving the highly prestigious AACSB Accreditation by next year.

On this occasion honorableChief Guest,Dr. SantruptMisra, CEO, Carbon Black Business Director, Chemicals & Director, Group HR Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd. shared his utterly inspiring corporate journey and boosted the morale of the students through his encouraging words.Under the aegis of the Mid-Day Big Break and DAKS awards for HR Excellence, Dr. Misra has been presented the Outstanding HR Professional of the Year Award (2004). He has also been conferred the Outstanding HR Chief Award by the National HRD Network (2000), and the HR Professional of the Year Award by the India HRD Congress (2002). He was identified as among the 20 hottest young executives by Business Today (2002).

During his address, Dr. Misra reiterated the visions of Late Sh. BK Birla and Smt. Sarala Birla and emphasized that the need of the hour is not to just create value, but lasting value which can only be attained through education, capacity & capability building. This is where applying to BIMTECH plays an extremely pivotal role by nurturing talent and making them pursue human endeavors which make life better and aligned towards the upliftment of the marginalized communities & society at large.“Seeking pleasure should not be the aim of life, finding answers to the pain of others should be. Spend these two years in this institute of repute and a strong vision, to develop yourselves as managers who are not only driven by business motives but also inclined towards the betterment of the world”.

The ceremony also saw the unveiling of the annual activity reports of the Centre for Management Case Development & the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development by their respective chairpersons, Dr. AK Dey and Dr Abha Rishi.

The solemn occasion concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Anupam Varma, Deputy Director and Dean Academics followed by the National Anthem.

With boosted morale and ignited aspirations, the event set the tone and context for the nexttwodays of Common Orientation and Program wise Orientation, held on 1st& 2nd August, 2020. During Common Orientation, the students were exposed to the rich and valuable corporate perspectives from both Alumni and Industry experts. It gave them an insight into the life of a BIMTECHian from campus to corporate and lifelong. During the session, the highly experienced mentors prepared students towards making the most of their student life and aligning their goals to industry expectations. The Common Orientation Program started with the welcome address by the Director, Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi which was followed by the brief elaboration on the Vision, Mission and Values of BIMTECH byDr Anupam Varma, Deputy Director and Dean Academics.

Starting with the panel discussion on “Industry expectations from the New MBA: The current imperatives” by the alumni, the orientation was then enriched with the discussions by leading industry experts like Mr. Vikas Kapur (Director, South-East Asia, Valvoline), Dr. Bandana Kedia (Director HR, Envecon Global Solutions), Mr. Gopal Iyer (Associate Director- Talent Team, EY GDS GigNow ProgramLeader),  Ms. Nitasha Shankar (Exec. V.P. & Head of Investment Advisory, YesSecurities (India) Limited) &Mr. R. Kannan ( Head – Corporate Performance Monitoring, Hinduja Group).

The experts delivered some extremely powerful messages to the students. According to Mr. Gopal Iyer- “Proper alignment of passion and purpose helps in achieving goals in life”.

Ms. Nitasha Shankar quoted that there is a need to learn niche subject as well as general knowledge to meet up to the expectations of today’s world.

The newly inducted batch also received information with respect to evaluation and assessment, campus protocols, placement, life beyond classroom and integrity in academic life from Deans, senior professors and the heads of the respective processes.

The program wise orientation had manyimportant keynote addressesby industry-specific dignitaries like Mr. Manish Singhal (Deputy Secretary General, FICCI), Mr. Rajiv Wahi (Chief Executive- International Business, Escorts Ltd.)for PGDM-Retail Management, Mr. TapanSinghel (MD & CEO, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Ltd.) for PGDM- Insurance to name a few & faculties.There were many key takeaways for the students from the expertswho sought to brief and prepare them for their next two years journey as budding managers.

Following the threedays, the new batch was well briefed about living and learning at BIMTECH and assimilated into the BIMTECH family with immense motivation and bonding that they will cherish forever. Though virtual, the commencement day at BIMTECH concluded on a successful note with fresh minds eagerly looking forward to build, shape and transform their two-year managerial journeywith utmost sincerity, motivation &optimism.
