GBU organize a Virtual Symposium on the theme Pāli, Buddhist Studies and NEP-2020, on August 14, 2020

Delhi/Greater Noida:University School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, Gautam Buddha University takes this opportunity to organize a Virtual Symposium on the theme Pāli, Buddhist Studies and NEP-2020: Perspectives and Prospects on August 14, 2020 to bring together the living legends and doyens who are tirelessly working to promote Pāli and Buddhist Studies or to say Study of Buddhism in India and abroad. The purpose of this Virtual symposium is to explore the perspectives and prospects of Pāli and Buddhist Studies not only in India but abroad as well and how the historical step to establish National Institute for promotion of Pāli taken by the Government of India in its newly approved New Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) is going to be a milestone in this regard.

It is a welcome step by Government of India for promotion of Pāli and Buddhist Studies, which is recommended in the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020). In order to ensure preservation, growth and vibrancy of all Indian languages, NEP-2020 recommends setting up of a National Institute (Institutes) for Pāli, Persian and Prākrit. NEP-2020 aims to give impetus to Pāli, Prākrit, and Sanskrit, the languages in which the Buddhist Literature and ancient heritage of India is encrypted. It would help to support higher studies, researches and publication of rich heritage of Buddhist and various ancient traditions of India including the varied ancient wisdom. India would occupy a fulcrum place in Indic and Ancient Oriental Studies attract academicians, scholars and researchers from across the world and facilitate the healthy growth of these disciplines.

The prime vision of the symposium is to underline numerous aspects of Pāli and Buddhist Studies and its relevance and significance in the aftermath announcement made in the NEP-2020 to establish an Institute of Pāli Language at national level to enhance quality of research and development in this area of study. This initiative aims at setting up a forum for the academicians engaged in practicing Pāli and Buddhist Studies to take a cohesive and collective brainstorming. We firmly believe that this symposium will be able to provide a productive platform with a strong message of transparent research and turn out to be an academic document for further guideline in future to promote Study of Buddhism in India and abroad.

The galaxy of experts of Pāli and Buddhist Studies will also throws light on the ongoing worldwide researches in the field of Pāli and Buddhist Studies. It is going to be an epoch making event for all those scholars who are working in the field Buddhism or Pāli and Buddhist Studies.
