PREAMBLE IS THE ESSENCE OF THE CONSTITUTION: JUSTICE DEEPAK MISRA

Greater Noida: Lloyd Law College President Manohar Thairani welcomed Justice Dipak Misra and Professor Rupesh Singh gave the introduction to the Preamble of the Constitution of India.

“The Preamble of the Constitution has been drafted so beautifully that requires no addition or change. It covers all the basic idea of the objectives that have to be achieved for the welfare of the people”.These are the word of Justice Deepak Misra who was speaking on a live webinar on 08.05.2020.

A live webinar was conducted by Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida on the topic “The Spirit and Ethos of the Preamble to the Constitution”. The former Chief Justice of India Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Deepak Misra was the speaker of the session. Justice Misra has explained about the significance of the Preamble of the Constitution. In His session he told the audience that preamble was inserted in the Constitution after the drafting of the provisions of the Constitution was complete. Many theories have been given to explain the Preamble. He has explained the meaning of the words Sovereign, Socialist, Secular along with the constitutional meaning of the terms Justice, equality and fraternity that are mentioned in the preamble. He has also told about how preamble has shown the direction to the interpreter of law while interpreting any provision of the Constitution. He has referred many landmark judgements of the Supreme Court such as Kesvananda Bharti, Minerva Millsand explained how those judgements have established the significance of the Preamble and referred it the essential part of the Constitution. He has also explained the meaning of the word Justice in the present scenario and explained the judgement of Navtej Singh Johar case in which LGBT community rights were recognised and they have been provided equality in the society.

The webinar was conducted by Lloyd Law College and more than 1100 people joined to listen to Justice Misra comprising students from all over India, Advocates, academicians and persons from media. After the session Justice Misra has also answered the queries that were raised by the participants related to the Preamble of Constitution.In his concluding remark he has extended his best wishes for Lloyd Law College for conducting such webinars and to provide the audience an opportunity to learn during this difficult time of Pandemic.
