EPCH CELEBRATES  6TH INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY THROUGH VIRTUAL PLATFORM

YOGA TO ENHANCE IMMUNITY AND FIGHT COVID

 NEW Delhi: EPCH has constituted Fitness and Sports Committee (FASCO] to organise Various health camps, yoga conventions, sports and outdoor activities so that members can remain active.  6TH edition of International Yoga day was celebrated by EPCH and FASCO on 21st June, 2020. This year due to covid pandemic, performance of yoga in public places was not possible but where there is a will, there is way, its justified by EPCH and FASCO by organising Yoga Day on virtual platform said Shri Rakesh Kumar, Director General – EPCH.  Yoga helps in controlling mind, body and soul.  It brings together physical and mental discipline to achieve a peaceful body and mind.   Yoga also helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxed.  In the time of covid pandemic, yoga can play an important role in increasing immunity of ones body thereby reducing risk of catching virus said Shri Kumar, DG – EPCH.

Shri Shantmanu, Development Commissioner [ Handicrafts] was the Chief Guest.  Shri Ravi K Passi, Chairman – EPCH, Shri Raj Kumar Malhotra, Shri Prince Malik, Coordinator FASCO, Shri R.K. Verma, ED- EPCH and members of Committee of Administration – EPCH were also present on the occasion. While addressing the participants in the virtual yoga session, Shri Shantmanu said that due to pandemic we are not able to perform yoga in an open place but it has given us opportunity to perform it indoors with our family members.  He also said that a lot has been mentioned in Geeta about yoga.  Yoga is not only Aasnas but it a skill.  To get the real benefits of yoga, everyone should perform yoga regularly for longer period and with honour and respect.

A yoga session was also organised during the event.  Other panellists who joined in the session included Ms. Arunima Sinha Senior Art of Living faculty,Dr. Nitin Agarwal, National Secretary, Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad & Managing Director Bliss Ayurveda Pvt. Ltd & Health Village, Greater Noida, Dr. Era Dutta, MD Psychiatry & Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, Fortis Healthcare Life, Kolkata,  Mr. Mohit Dahiya, Hath Yoga practioner.  Around 200 participants joined the yoga session.  Dr. Arunima Sinha said that Aasnas and Pranayama play vital role for having healthy mind and everyone should follow regularly and particularly in present times when covid pandemic is taking almost large number of people in its grip.  She also spoke about importance of art of living and right balance between body, mind and soul.

Dr. Nitin Agarwal, National Secretary, Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad, while speaking on the occasion said that he would like to call yoga day as Day of Health.   He further  said that Ayurveda play a vital role in keeping everyone healthy and help in  increasing immunity and very soon a medicine will be coming out in Ayurveda to fight the virus.  He also suggested home remedies to enhance immune system and named some of the prominent herbs such as Ashvagandha and Giloy should be consumed for having good immune system.   Dr. Era Dutta spoke on most relevant topic on Depression and Wellness which is need of hour in covid pandemic. While speaking on the subject Dr. Era Dutta said that because of pandemic, lot of people are getting depression.  She further said that depression is not the weakness of a character, its chemical problem which arises because of bad lifestyle, bad habits, family issues and issues related to disease being faced by people. She suggested that problem of depression can be overcome by keeping good mental health which can be maintained by following yoga, balanced life and routine, learning and creating new things, socialising and last by prioritising and making plans to live a positive and healthy life.

Mr. Mohit Dahiya from Hathyoga Practitioner performed various yoga aasnas and participants followed him by sitting at homes in comfortable and safe atmosphere.  He also said that yoga is the destination and available in India from ancient times and it enlighten the soul, mind and body.

Certificates were also distributed to the best performers of yoga which included best most flexible body, most fit body, best yoga performer, youngest yogis and elderly yogi.  In the elderly yogi category, Mr. Raj Kumar Malhotra, Vice Chairman – EPCH received the certificate.  In the oldest yogi category,  78 years old Mr. Rajinder Kahsyap was given certificate.
